Mark 4:26-27, "And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how."

Today with all of man's modern technology, he still cannot explain how one seed of corn, wheat or some other grain can bring forth abundant more seeds in the springtime and harvest. However, God knows how this happens and sets the times, bounds, and plains of our existence. Man simply puts the seed in and gives it the attention that he is capable of, but God must give the increase for the grain to come forth. Paul said that man puts a grain in the ground to die, if by chance it may bear grain in the harvest (I Corinthians 15:37).

So, also the Lord's kingdom is likened unto this.  Someone may have heard the same message of grace for 20 or 30 years. Yet, the Lord blesses His people with times of springtime and harvest when these very folks suddenly spring forth with the light and understanding that Christ died for their sins, and the kingdom is
strengthened.

The Lord has added such as should be saved, and the sickle is put forth to reap the grain.  However, the minister that preached, like the farmer who planted and watered, is not the one who is praised. The Lord gave the increase and He is praised in both cases. Man knoweth not how the grain shoots forth, he also knows not when someone will unite with the Lord's church, but the sickle and reapers must always be ready for the time appointed.Button back to previous
