Revelation 1:1, "The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:"

This morning, there are more wild ideas thrown around about the book of Revelation than any other in the Word of God. Most of the confusion and misconception begins at the very first verse. This verse is critical to understanding something of the rest of the book. So, to be blessed to understand things in the book of Revelation, it must be imperative to understand verse 1.

The most common misconception of the book is who this revelation belongs to. Most credit John with being the revelator, but the first verse clearly states that Christ is the Revelator and Revealer of secrets within His word. No man deserves any of the credit for spiritual understanding. If anyone is blessed to hear and understand preaching, the Lord Jesus Christ gets all the credit for He is the
Revelator.

Also, the next biggest misunderstanding about this book is that most people refer to it as the book of "Revelations." Notice that there is only one revelation. There are many incorrect and false revelations, but there is only one true revelation.  There is only one God, one Father, one faith, one baptism, and all of these good gifts and perfect gifts come down from the Father of lights. (James 1:17) So, the Lord begins this book by declaring that His Son is the Revelator of that true revelation that John penned down. John is a servant that bears witness of these things, and today, we are servants also who bear witness of the faith that He has given to us by His free grace alone. Praise ever be to His great name.Button back to previous
